Night of the Living Dead
The modern Zombie was arguably invented with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, which was created by George A. Romero and John A. Russo. Zombies existed before this, but this cult classic and heavily loved film brought the flesh eating, walking corpse Zombie to life.
George A. Romero followed up this Night of the Living Dead with the sequels 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Day of the Dead' and 'Land of the Dead'. The first three movies are often referred to as the 'Trilogy of the Dead'. Romero has always been able to make a scary Zombie movie, but at the same time, he adds social commentary on the current state of the country at the time of the movie.
Filmed in black and white, the movie has been remade several times since it's release in 1968. Tom Savini remade it the first time in 1990 and the latest remake of Night of the Living Dead was released on DVD in 2007 and was presented in 3D.
