Griffin

The Griffin is a mythical creature known from ancient Greek stories. They have the head, wings and talons of an eagle, attached to a lion's body. The lion's front paws are replaced with the talons of the eagle, but it's back paws still have the razor sharp claws of the lion. The Griffin is one of the most popular fantasy beasts.

When a Griffin attacks from the air, it typically swoops down on it's prey, pushing it to the ground with it's hind legs. When attacking from a standing position, it leaps forward, sinking it's front talons onto it's prey as it knocks it down. Once the unfortunate being is down, the beast tears it apart with it's beak and talons.

Traditionally the Griffin has been said to gather gold and other trasure and keep it at it's nest. Although it's stories has existed since the time of ancient Greece, and perhaps before that, it's still referenced in today's pop culture. Notably, it is used as a form of transportation in the popular video game, World of Warcraft.
